If you’re looking for a perfect fall weekend filled with art, live music, and the beauty of the South Carolina coast, mark your calendar for September 26–28, 2025. That’s when the Atalaya Arts & Crafts Festival returns to the iconic Atalaya Castle at Huntington Beach State Park in Murrells Inlet. And this year is extra special—it’s the festival’s 50th anniversary!
Atalaya Castle is a treasure in itself. Built in the 1930s by Archer and Anna Hyatt Huntington, the castle’s Spanish-Moorish design makes it one of the most unique landmarks on the Hammock Coast. Wandering through its courtyards and stone hallways while browsing art displays feels like stepping back in time. It’s the kind of setting that makes this festival unlike any other.
More than 100 artists and craftsmen will be showcasing their work this year. From stunning paintings and sculptures to hand-crafted jewelry, pottery, and textiles, there’s truly something for everyone. Even if you don’t consider yourself an “art person,” you’ll find it fun just to wander, discover, and maybe take home a piece that speaks to you.
The festival runs Friday from noon to 5 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is just $10 for adults, and kids 15 and under get in free—so it’s a great outing for families. Just a quick note: pets aren’t allowed inside the castle, and strollers or wheelchairs might find some of the old stone paths a little tricky.
And let’s not forget the atmosphere. Live music fills the castle courtyard throughout the weekend, adding to the festive vibe. When you get hungry, local food vendors are on hand with everything from classic burgers and hot dogs to fried fish, jerk chicken, kettle corn, lemonade, and even fresh doughnuts. It’s as much a foodie stop as it is an art show!
Beyond the festival, Huntington Beach State Park itself is worth the trip. Between the beaches, salt marshes, and nature trails, you can easily make a whole day—or even a weekend—out of your visit.
So grab your friends or family, head to Murrells Inlet, and experience one of South Carolina’s most beloved traditions. The 2025 Atalaya Arts & Crafts Festival is more than just an art show—it’s a celebration of creativity, history, and coastal charm.
