If you’re looking for a little holiday magic during your North Myrtle Beach vacation, there’s a spectacular tradition just a short drive down the coast.

Each holiday season, Brookgreen Gardens in Murrells Inlet transforms into a glowing wonderland for Nights of a Thousand Candles.

And while the name says a thousand, the reality is even more impressive.

More Than 2,700 Candles and Millions of Lights

Imagine strolling along the pathways of one of the country’s most beautiful gardens surrounded by the warm glow of more than 2,700 hand-lit candles and millions of sparkling lights. Add holiday music, decorated gardens and the Lowcountry landscape, and you’ve got an evening that feels a world away from the ordinary.

The event takes place from 4 to 9 p.m., giving visitors plenty of time to wander the illuminated gardens, listen to live entertainment and enjoy the holiday atmosphere. There’s also a tree lighting in the Arboretum and five 45-minute entertainment sets scheduled throughout the evening.

When Is Nights of a Thousand Candles?

The 2026 event begins November 27 and continues on select evenings through January 3, 2027. Tickets are $40 for non-member adults and $20 for children ages 4–12, with discounted member pricing available.

Visitors can also grab something to eat during the evening. Food trucks, beverage stations and The Old Kitchen are available, while Austin’s Harvest offers a sit-down dining option with reservations recommended.

Make It Part of Your Beach Vacation

One of the best things about staying at Best Western Ocean Sands Beach Resort is having easy access to attractions throughout the Grand Strand. Spend the day enjoying the beach and North Myrtle Beach, then head south to Murrells Inlet for an evening surrounded by candlelight and holiday sparkle.

Brookgreen Gardens is located at 1931 Brookgreen Drive in Murrells Inlet, just off Highway 17 Bypass.

And remember to dress warmly—those coastal December evenings can get chilly!
