There are plenty of reasons to love the Grand Strand during the holiday season, but few are as magical as Nights of a Thousand Candles at Brookgreen Gardens. Beginning November 27, 2026, this beloved Lowcountry tradition transforms the gardens into a spectacular holiday wonderland illuminated by more than 2,700 hand-lit candles and millions of sparkling lights.

The event runs on select evenings through January 3, 2027, giving visitors plenty of opportunities to experience the gardens after dark. The gates open at 4 p.m., and the celebration continues until 9 p.m. Guests can stroll along illuminated pathways, listen to holiday music, enjoy a warm cup of cider and take in the incredible combination of sculpture, gardens and twinkling lights.

One of the evening’s highlights is the 6 p.m. holiday tree lighting in the Arboretum. Live entertainment is presented throughout the evening, with multiple performances scheduled between 4 and 9 p.m. Food trucks and other dining options are also available, making it easy to turn your visit into a full evening out.

And don’t forget to bring your camera! With glowing pathways, decorated trees, sculptures and thousands of lights surrounding you, there are photo opportunities around practically every corner.

Located in Murrells Inlet, Brookgreen Gardens is an easy drive from Ocean Sands Beach Resort. Spend the day enjoying the beach and North Myrtle Beach, then head south for an unforgettable evening of holiday lights.
